Weight management service is a healthcare service made up of a group of support workers, dietitians, nurses, psychologists and a medical doctor. This service aims to help people understand why they may have struggled to lose weight and support them to make long-term changes to their activity and diet.

The reason why people become overweight or obese is due to a complex set of personal, social and environmental influences. However, being overweight or obese can bring physical, social and emotional problems. It can mean that people experience stigma and discrimination. It can also lead to preventable long-term illness, reduced life expectancy and a higher probability of needing hospital treatment in comparison to people who have a healthy weight.  This can have a huge impact on the individual, as well as the people around them.
